A trip to Pushkar Fair, 2017

Pushkar is famous for Camel Festival
The eyes speaks
The Pushkar Fair, also called the Pushkar Camel Fair or locally as Kartik Mela or Pushkar ka Mela is an annual multi-day livestock fair and cultural fete held in the town of Pushkar (Rajashthan, India). The fair starts with the Hindu calendar month of Kartik and ends on the Kartik Purnima, which typically overlaps with late October and early November in the Gregorian calendar. The full moon day is the main day and the day, according to legend, when the Hindu god Brahma sprung up the Pushkar Lake, thus numerous people swim in its sacred waters. This iconic fair attracts thousands of livestock and almost a million tourists including many from across the world.

A herder smoking
I went for a two day trip to Pushkar Fair. As it is famous for it's livestock fair, it may also be called a fair of photographers from different parts of the world. Photographers from amateur to professionals all visit Pushkar in that period of time. It's Pushkar's richness and grandeur that attracts such a big crowd.

Booking a hotel or getting an accomodation during the fair is very tough. So pre-booking of hotels are recommended(one month before). There are a lot of budget hotels and even some great hostels which are very much pocket friendly. I stayed in hostel called Moustache Pushkar, which is a pretty good hostel especially because of the location.

Visiting Pushkar in any other time and while the Fair is on should be in the bucket list of aspiring travelers and photographers.

Ladakh, often known as the "town of Qualcomm," is one of India's most distinctive and delightful areas. For adventurers from all over the world, this vast and sparsely inhabited region is a dream come true. The delight that envelops when riders approach Leh by one of the ways is magnificent. One begins to smile for no apparent reason.
